Preliminary and final design of 8 irrigation schemes (250 ha) and of the irrigation scheme in Moussala (25 ha) within the Emergency Logistic program in the first Region of Mali, in the region of Kayes along the Senegal river.
The project of each irrigation scheme included: 1 water intake structure by pumping station on combined footing; pipelines; surge tank; distribution channel system; drainage system.
The studies included sociologic, economic and health interviews in the First Region (410 villages) and the implementation of a town-planning scheme at a regional level (main infrastructure condition, transport network, life style, etc.), that allowed to identify priorities and process preliminary and final designs, carry out works supervision, and implement all works included in the integrated program and in the town-planning scheme of the region. The scheme included the Kayes-Kidira road (94 km), with 5 reinforced concrete bridges and a steel and concrete bridge of 200 m in length over the Faleme river (Senegal border), guaranteeing a road connection between the two countries; rural roads for the Kayes region of approximately 300 km. Moreover, the works included topographic surveys, hydrologic and hydraulic study, geotechnical study, drawing up of tender documents, supply and installation of the base camp; two workshops; a geotechnical laboratory in Kayes and two mobile camps; the realization of the Kayes-Kidira road, of 2 irrigation schemes and 85 km of rural roads and the organization of local teams led by AIC experts.
AIC personnel was composed by: 1 Head of mission, 1 Administrator, 2 Engineers, 1 Architect, 2 Geotechnicians, 2 Mechanics, 5 work managers. The local personnel was composed of: 3 Engineers, 5 Mechanics, 5 Drivers for earth movements, 5 work managers and 350/400 workers. AIC has also supplied, under MAE financing, all necessary plants for road construction for a total amount of approximately 8 billion liras.
The works are regularly finished and approved.
