The Forecariah bridge is located at the entrance of the town of Forecariah, on the Coyah-Forecariah road. The road Coyah-Farmoreah (Forodou) has a length of approximately 78 km and crosses the coastal plain characterized by small rollings creating an alternation of bottom lands and plains, often with intensive crops (pineapple, mango, etc.) and embankments.
The road runs along an old track used for fruit transportation coming from vast plantings in the area of Forecariah. Only some parts of the road are characterized by excavations and embankments. The road follows the ground, with reduced vertical curves and horizontal curves often lower than 100 m.
The road is subject to a considerable traffic volume.
The bridge over the Forecariah river is located at Ch. 49+800 of the road. The existing bridge has a carriageway of 3 m with a pedestrian walkway of 1 m in width.
The vehicle transit on the bridge has been interrupted, thus extending the road to Conakry of approximately 150 km.
The new bridge characteristics are the following:
- Bridge length approximately 173.90 m ;
- Deck composed of a carriageway of 7 m in width and 2 sidewalks of 1.00 m;
- N. 5 beams of 35.00 m each, with a span of 33.00 m ;
- Prestressed concrete deck (3 beams and center distance of 2.90);
- Concrete shoulder and piers;
- River bed morphology: deep estuary influenced by tides from the geomorphologic point of view ;
- Sand and gravel foundation grounds. Roadbase : doleritic layer;
- Foundations on piles with a diameter of 1000 mm.
