Project Description

The development of this road section was identified during the development of the multinational Benin / Togo project for the rehabilitation of the Lomé-Cotonou road in July 2014.

The rehabilitation of the Adjaha-Athiémé road (40 km) and its spurs (37 km) will allow to:

  • opening up productive areas and developing the resources produced in these areas, factors that will increase the income of rural populations;
  • improve accessibility to social infrastructure : the opening up of a rural area makes it easier, faster and cheaper for people to reach the municipality's social services: 1) school, 2) high school, 3) dispensary, 4) hospital, 5) town hall services (indicator: population with access to social infrastructure) ;
  • it also aims at reducing insecurity between the major cities of Benin and, also, improving the flow of traffic between Lagos and Abidjan.

The study also provides for an assessment of road safety on all the axes studied, with the location of black spots, an analysis of road accident data and the implementation of measures to improve safety. Specific surveys were carried out with users and with local authorities
