Descrizione Progetto

As far as Site1 is concerned, the project concerns the reconstruction of bridge n°3 and of two fords, over the Grand Sable river along the Congo Valley, which were destroyed during the December 2013 storm. The said bridge is located some 3+130 km west of Grand Sable along the Congo Valley road, while the two fords are located at 2+522 km and 2+821km.

As for Site2, instead, the road represents the link between different urban centres such as: Coull Hill, Troumaca, Charles Village and Rosehall, alternate to the Leeward highway. The current road follows some steep gradients in several sections, which from Coulls Hill (starting point) at 136 mts asl, climbs up to 256 mts asl after 3.39 kms for an average longitudinal gradient of 3.5%. At km 1+200 the road crosses a stream by means of a single 5 mts span reinforced slab culvert which does not show signs of major structural distress but needs replacement mainly due to its reduced width. For Site2, the project’s main purpose is, in fact, to upgrade the existing road and its structures to possibly collect the traffic passing along the leeward highway in case of either rehabilitation works or interruption of the circulation along that road.
