Project Description

The construction of the Kigali-Kayonza asphalted road (64 km) was carried out between 1974 and 1977 by the CNCTPC enterprise. Between 1980 and 1994 the current and periodic maintenance program was assured by the MINITRAPE services, with the technical assistance of GTZ, with the financing support of KfW. After 1994, few and limited interventions were carried out. The current situation needs an urgent intervention for reinforcing the road, that is subdimensioned with respect to traffic flow on this section linking Rwanda to the Dar Es Salaam (Tanzania) and Mombasa (Kenya) harbors. The project aims at carrying out the whole necessary studies for the processing of tender documents for the rehabilitation of the road.

Evaluation of traffic
flows and nature, technical studies, economic feasibility study, evaluation of
financing proposal, preparation of tender documents, offer evaluation.
Topographic, geotechnical and hydrologic study. Existing structure and
foundation evaluation, hydrologic survey for drainage works, material and pit
evaluation.
