Project Description

After that the detailed design for the same road was already prepared by the Consultant, this assignment concerned the revision of previous documents to fit the Design and Build system. The main task was to prepare a Concept design and the Employer’s requirements for the Nekemte Bure road located in the Oromia regional state. The road is classified as Link road B32, and its current status is “gravel/earth” road with variable width between 4 and 7 metres.

The project concerns the upgrading from gravel to asphalt (DS4 standard) of the 244 kms from Nekemte to Bure. Most of the project’s road crosses flat to rolling terrain a part from two mountainous-escarpment sections between 80 and 90 and 180 to 195, the latter being the Blue Nile (Abbay river) gorge crossing.

The current road standards are of a gravel road and the project envisaged to upgrade them to DS4 standards which, for flat/rolling/mountainous/escarpment, is as follows:
