Project Description

Program IV rehabilitation of bridges in reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete, prepared by the Ministry of Public Works, is co-financed in the framework of Financial Cooperation Germano-Cameroonian by the Kreditanstalt fur Wiederaufbau (KfW).

The program provides for the rehabilitation of seven bridges length between 16 and 200 m, including 3 on the provincial road RP10, additional solution linking Yaoundé and Kribi, and 4 on the N7 national road Douala-Kribi.

The goal of the program is generated improved traffic conditions to ensure traffic safely along the two roads that are part of the priority interventions already planned in the Road Master Plan.

This is indeed, two roads linking a shopping center, of primary importance, the port of Kribi, arrival point of the Chad oil pipeline, and the two major cities in Cameroon Yaoundé and Douala.

After a brief review of the structural conditions of the seven bridges described in the Terms of Reference and after the visit of our expert on site, the following critical conditions have been recognized:

Après un examen sommaire des conditions structurelles des sept ponts décrit dans les Termes de référence et après la visite d’un notre expert sur place, on peut reconnaitre les conditions de crise suivantes :

-          Prevalence of carbonation of concrete, with cracks and uncased reinforcement,

-          Instability phenomena of abutments and piles due to foundation subsidence.

Naturally, each structure will be analyzed with respect to the consequences that a possible interruption of traffic could have on the economic situation of the area of influence of the road, in relation to the dimensions of the works, the importance of rehabilitation interventions and to the actual possibilities of recovering the remaining useful life.
