Project Description

Following the politic events occurred in October 2014 in Burkina Faso, the study is currently suspended.

The study of a motorway between Abidjan and Ouagadougou comes from the need to increase infrastructures for a tighter competition among international territories.

The design of a motorway tends to go beyond the mere satisfaction of technological requisites, recognizing the importance that the same infrastructure has in the transformation of territorial environment, in the economic and social development of the affected areas and in the landscape configuration.

In this context, it is necessary to face a variety of issues including:

- The need to continuously verify, enrich and change work hypotheses to advance research toward a more concrete social utility;

- The need to access various financing sources due to lack of economic resources;

- The need for collaboration between different subjects responsible for planning, design, implementation works at political, local, regional and central level;

- The opportunity to promote synergy between public and private investments.

Such a complex project must necessarily arise from the contribution of different professional components willing and able to participate in the project in a spirit of collaboration. The project is therefore not the result of a personal work, but the result of a collective effort in which every figure, involved in the configuration of the structure, makes an original contribution able to harmonize and integrate with others.

This is especially true for such an important work as the motorway Ouagadougou-Abidjan, where it is natural that there are conflicts of interest at various levels, technical, economic and disciplinary, but where harmonization of various components plays a crucial role as regards the final quality of the structure itself and with the induction of interconnection with the immediate environment.

This is what was done during the development phase of the technical-economic and environmental study of the section Ouagadougou-Bobo Dioulasso. The layout selection was made by a mutual agreement, in particular with the approval of all Administrations and Municipalities involved in the layout, after comparing different solutions.

The subsequent procedure, detailed engineering design and preparation of Tender Dossier, concerns the passage from the preliminary design to the final design. Such procedure will be done by modifying engineering technical methods of road conception, that link different solutions to preset models and types, by adapting in a more suitable way the study and its typological articulations, to physical and functional context.

Following this procedure, it will be possible to get the performance requirements of each component that must be compared with technical constraints to make the best choice in a compromise solution.
