Project Description

The connection is located south of Trapani on the A29 dir. With the junction of BirgiAirport. The grade line develops for a length of approximately 9200 m with small shifting from the ground level, besides the crossings of the viaduct on the stream Misilliscemi (L=300m), of the river Chinisia (L=1000m) and of two morphologic depressions (L=200 m – L=500m). At km 9+252 with the Granatello junction the road to the Birgi airport starts, up to the junction of Marsala South. This section is approximately 10 km long and includes also the junction to Marsala Nord.

Moreover, the project envisages the adjustment of an existing tunnel (L=1570m) and a new tunnel (L=1750m) in altimetric variant with respect to the existing road, in order to bypass the area of the MarsalaHospital.

The subsequent section has a length of 7780 m and includes three viaducts (L=200m, L=100m, L=100m), the junctions of Terrenove and Petrosino. This section also presents a grade line slightly shifting from the ground level.

The last section has a length of 7850m, and reaches the SS.115 Sud Occidentale Sicula near Mazara del Vallo and does not have relevant structures.

This link is not sufficient to rehabilitate the viability in the area between Trapani and Mazara. In fact, future interventions are envisaged as for example the connection between the junction of Birgi and the one to Trapani, and the connection between the junction to Marsala North and the A29 highway.

The presence in some sections of particularly deep and broad calcareous materials quarries required the execution of specific surveys with the use of the geo-radar. The particular location of the layout required a thorough environmental impact study.
